Teacher responsibilities
Use this checklist to keep track of your tasks; you will be expected to:
1. Assign students to read “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.
2. Join the Google Group for Givercraft Teachers named “The Givercraft Community”; an invitation will be sent to the email address indicated on the registration form.
3. Create student usernames that will be used to log into the game (3-4 letters of your last name + the student’s first name). Send a roster and usernames to the Givercraft team.
4. Create a class wiki (or similar site) for your students to share their writing and screenshots. Each student will need their own section or page which you will also use to grade according to a rubric that we have included in this guide.
5. Download, install, and test MinecraftEdu client software on student computers in advance, to ensure that students are able to begin the Givercraft experience on time. Make time to discuss technical issues with school IT staff to ensure that the client is working properly.
6. Review the Unit Plan in this guide and discuss implementation questions and concerns with the Givercraft Google Community.
7. Review the Community Agreement with students and have each student sign a copy.
8. Finalize the game schedule of when your students will be in the game over the three-week period; send this schedule to the Givercraft Team.
9. Complete the Teacher Training course provided by the Givercraft Team; join Teacher Challenge session in MinecraftEdu prior to Givercraft.
10. Create a zone in the MinecraftEdu world for each participating class; place a border, teleport blocks, and other special blocks as needed.
11. During Givercraft, monitor and manage students when they are logged into the MinecraftEdu world and enforce the Community Agreement as needed.
12. Provide time for students to complete each scenario, including posting screenshots and writing to their wiki pages.
13. Assess student work according to the standards you choose and the relevant rubrics; report data to Dr. Lee Graham ([email protected]) and the Givercraft Team.
14. Participate in the Givercraft Google Community - share progress, screenshots, issues, concerns, or questions.
